Christophe

Thank you for the quick reply. It turned out that I did have an older
version of the Cygwin DLL in my Windows system directory. After deleting it,
I downloaded gmsh version 1.53.2 and everything seems to be working fine.
I'll give 1.54 a try next.

Happy 4th., and now I intend to enjoy mine!

Larry

> I have been running gmsh 1.50 under Windows 2000 Pro. Since I'm still in
the
> novice mode, until yesterday I had not bothered to update to later
versions
> of gmsh. When I installed version 1.54 I found it would open the main
> window and then immediately the application would hangup. I then went back
> and installed each of the earlier versions and found I could successfully
> install and run all of versions up through 1.52.1. The same problem then
> occurs starting with version 1.53.0.

Hi Larry - Checking the differences between 1.52.1 and 1.53.0, I don't
see anything Windows-specific in the code that should cause this.

*But* the 1.53 release was the first to use an upgraded version of
Cygwin... So my guess is that there is either something wrong with the
newest version of the Cygwin DLL on Windows 2000, or that you have
conflicting versions of Cygwin on your system. Could you make sure that
you use the Cygwin DLL packaged with 1.53, and that you have no other
versions of "cygwin1.dll" on your system?

Thanks for the feedback,

Christophe
