Fedora packages are required to build against system libraries.  With 1.3.5 
(current in Fedora 18) I get a compile error:

/export/home/orion/fedora/paraview/ParaView/VTK/Rendering/GL2PS/vtkGL2PSUtilities.cxx:63:66: 
error: 'gl2psTextOptColor' was not declared in this scope
/export/home/orion/fedora/paraview/ParaView/VTK/Rendering/GL2PS/vtkGL2PSUtilities.cxx:250:30: 
error: 'gl2psGetFileFormat' was not declared in this scope

If there was conditional support for older versions of gl2ps maybe...
